Standard Sidings has been a constant leader in the Permanentway industry for over three decades.
We have a vast amount of knowledge and experience, enabling us to undertake and complete any Permanentway project successfully.
The company was formed in 1993, under the leadership of Mr Frik De Jager, who at that time, already possessed a wealth of knowledge in the Permanentway Industry, including working with private sidings.

We ensure exceptional quality and strict adherence to all applicable rail standards, including Railway Safety Regulator requirements, in all our work.

Services

Supply Perway Material

Standard Sidings can supply, deliver and install A – C grade Material. Track, Stop blocks, fastenings, pads etc..





Supply and Install Points Material

Tumbler, and parts, Sleepers, rods etc Standard Sidings can supply all Points Material for sidings. Material from A grade – C grade. Material can be delivered to site. Standards Sidings can also do the full installation / replacement of Points.


Emergency Repairs to tracks

Cracked or broken rails or sleepers may cause serious derailments and accidents and further damage to infrastructures. Standard Sidings can respond to any emergency to make emergency repairs to keep operations going until permanent repairs can be completed.

Washaways

After any heavy rains or floods, washaways may occur. These vary from minor – causing slack points in the track – to major – entire rail washaway. Standard Sidings can assess your track and identify problem areas and pack the lines properly and make all necessary repairs to get your track back to Railway Safety Regulatory operational requirements.

Derailment Response and Repairs

In the event of any derailment, minor or severe, damage may incur to the railway infrastructure. Standard Sidings can help you correct the derailment and perform a damage assessment on the infrastructure and perform repairs in order to get your operations running swiftly. Our knowledgeable and experienced staff will also assist the investigation to establish the cause.

Upgrading of Track

Standard Sidings can help you to upgrade and repair your existing sidings track to match your businesses requirements including, in concrete or tar, on ground, steel sleepers etc.




Siding Maintenance

Regular maintenance is critical for 100% functionality of the Railway Infrastructure. From greasing, packing and tamping to gauge measurement, tightening fastening and full inspection. Standard Sidings can help you to ensure that your line remains in top coniditon and help to identify any potential risks before an incident may occur.

Break down old Track

Standard Sidings can safely break down and remove any existing old track that is no longer needed or that will be replaced with new. Old Material can either be removed from site and where possible, refurbished, or legally sent for recycling if material is beyond salvage.


Projects

Standard Sidings was established in 1993 and has been a core supplier and service provider for over 30 years. In that time, we have undertaken many projects focusing on private sidings and assisting our clients ensure that their needs are meant and that they are in compliance with the Railway Safety Regulators Regulations.

SOUTH AFRICAN SUGAR ASSOCIATION – SUGAR TERMINAL

Replacement of points signals and re-ballasting of sets, repaired wide gauge on one line, replacement of crossing and stock and switch, replaced 3 blades.


TRANSNET ENGINEERING

Replacement of Sleepers, Crossings and Sets/Points. Movement of existing lines. Siding maintenance.



ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY

Siding maintenance and reballasting.





SOUTH AFRICAN BULK TERMINAL

Crane rail repairs.


DURBAN BULK SHIPPING

Replaced complete Turnouts, and two off stock and switches.

Mr Frederick De Jager

Owner

Frik was previously, in his position of Private siding manager, for the then South African Transport Services, responsible for ensuring that private sidings complied with Permanentway Instructions applicable to 1065mm gauge (and 610mm gauge no longer in use on Transnet Infrastructure). At that time the Rail Safety Regulator did not yet exist. Mr Frik De Jager would, where required, conduct an inspection, and bring his team of specialized staff (S.A.T.S employees) to repair or upgrade the track to required standards..

Mr Riaan De Jager

Contract Manager

Riaan brought with him a fresh approach and modern input into the company, making use of technology, along with his experience & vision for the future. Mr Riaan De Jager has now successfully being at the helm of company operations for more than two decades, and will continue to do so going forward.

Mr Michael Kemp

TrackMaster

Mike has for over 3 decades, worked in the Permanentway Industry, repairing & building railway lines. Managing projects from Permanentway maintenance, and emergency callouts for Spoornet / Transnet Freight Rail
